Varieties of Tea

Throughout history there have been countless volumes written in attempting to describe the broad subject of tea.

We start at the very beginning breaking down the main categories that often fall within the broad term 'Tea'. However these are technically separated into the following areas.

What is traditionally known as 'tea' comes from the Camellia Sinensis. By way of different production this same leaf becomes what is well known as black tea, green tea, oolong and white tea.

Infusions are the most accepted term for those which do not originate from the Camellia Sinensis, such as Peppermint, Chamomile, Rosehip & Hibiscus.

Rooibos (often called Red Tea) from South Africa is not from the Camellia Sinensis and is often considered an infusion or a category of it's own.
